This article contains some “Easter eggs” I found after recollecting some of Dan Brown’s novels I’ve read (especially Robert Langdon trilogy). Here are the facts:

1. Robert Langdon is a representation of Dan Brown himself: smart, handsome, friendly, and casual (except the fact that Robert Langdon is a great swimmer, which I haven’t found that fact on Dan Brown; and the Mickey Mouse watch).
2. In “The Lost Symbol”, Robert Langdon took a quotation from another Dan Brown’s novel: “Digital Fortress”. This is a nasty one; he said that he read it from an ordinary thriller novel (special thanks to fanderlart for this info!).
3. Dan Brown really loves wordplay! You can see it from some anagrams he used: “Oh, lame saint!”; “O, Draconian Devil!”; “N. Dakota” (which was later perceived as “North Dakota”); “Jehova Sanctus Unus”; and so many more.
4. All Dan Brown’s novels always include some real facts, but somehow he blends it perfectly to the story so it becomes hard to recognize as a fact. For example: Illuminati brotherhood really did exist. But the Illuminati diamond? The fact is, it was a Dan Brown’s colleague who created the ambigram of Illuminati.
5. The title of his books doesn’t give quite proper image of the story. In fact, it has nothing to do with the story:
   1. The Da Vinci Code: it’s an anagram (code?) that reads “Leonardo Da Vinci” when decrypted.
   2. Angels and Demons: refers to a rule which many physicists believe, dualism.
   3. The Lost Symbol: refers to the item that was stolen, a symbolon.
   4. For “Digital Fortress” and “Deception Point”, I haven’t found out what they mean. But don’t worry; I’ll let you know when I find it out.

Quite unique, eh? Of course! That’s why I like his novels. For you who haven’t read any of his novels, I suggest you “Angels & Demons” to start. In my opinion, that’s the best among the others. But I’m warning you, don’t watch the movie! It’ll ruin everything! I think everyone would agree to my opinion (if they have read the book) that the movie is actually very, very bad (in term of the story, of course – the cinematic effects, however, was great).

So, what are you waiting for? Start reading! If you don’t own the book, buy it! (or look for someone who does, and ask him/her to lend you one)

Anyway, let’s get back to the topic. Here is the main topic, that is, how to hack the memory. But make sure you have fulfilled all the prerequirements I mentioned in my former posts (memory editor, hex understanding, etc).

First, open your memory editor (if you have separate finder-patcher, open them both), then the game (application) you want to hack.

IMPORTANT! Be sure to do it in the correct order, as not all application would allow task-switching

Next, switch to the memory editor (or finder, but NOT patcher) you opened earlier.Find the process you want to hack, and hook it (detail process differs among different editor, so I don’t write step-by-step here. I will write the details in a separate post later). Got it? Good.

Then, initiate a memory search. For simplicity matter, it’s easier to find a value you’ve known exactly (the value is displayed clearly in the game screen).

This is where your knowledge takes place. As you see, the number is 56; therefore it would be better to set the data size to BYTE instead of LONG. LONG will also work, but it takes more time to search the memory as 56 (0×38) is also LONG and so is 4152 (0×1038) and 1397100856 (0×53461138). They all contain the number 0×38 so if you search with data size LONG (4 bytes), those three values might show up. On your request, I can write a program to demonstrate this.

The first search would likely yield so many results, so you’ll have to “filter” them. The simplest way is to lose one of your lives (so it becomes 55). Now search again. But instead of searching the entire memory, search in the previously found addresses. Keep doing this, and you’ll eventually get the correct address (unless the value you search wasn’t quite right, of course).

Now that we’ve got the correct address, switch to your patcher. Unhook the finder and hook the patcher. This step is important. If you don’t do it, then, let’s say, uhh… Just do it, alright? Trust me; you don’t want to lose your valuable work, after spending hours reading this creepy guide!

Next, add the address into the patcher. Be sure to set the right data type (as for the example above, it would be BYTE). Look for option like “Poke Address”, “Set Value”, or such (sometimes double-clicking the address also works; it depends on the program, though). Change the stored value with consideration on the upper bound of the data type (as for this example, the data type is BYTE, so don’t change the value exceeding 255. If you want to change it to more than 255, use SHORT (or WORD) instead).

Get back to the game, and check if everything works perfectly fine. If not, there are some troubleshooting guides:

1. Check if you hooked the right process (application).
2. Make sure you found the correct address. (how? Changing the value from inside the game, of course! Then see if the value also changes)
3. Use the smallest data type possible, i.e. for lives, use BYTE (you don’t need 65535 lives, do you?). For score, use LONG (as score could reach very high number).
4. If there’s no problem, then it might be the game itself. Some games can’t by hacked by memory hacking software; one of them is Counter Strike. If this is the case, don’t blame me. I’ve warned you in my earlier post!

Andaikan kita berdiri sebagai pusat sebuah bola raksasa di luar angkasa yang berjari-jari, katakanlah, sejuta tahun cahaya. Andaikan ada sebuah bintang yang terletak pada kulit bola tersebut. Mengingat jaraknya, berarti cahaya bintang tersebut akan sampai ke mata kita sejuta tahun kemudian. Hal ini berarti,ketika *sekarang* kita melihat cahaya bintang tersebut, kita sebenarnya sedang melihat bintang tersebut pada keadaannya sejuta tahun lalu. Sedangkan apa yang sedang terjadi di bintang itu *sekarang* baru akan kita lihat sejuta tahun lagi. Mungkin saja sekarang bintang itu sudah mati, menjadi supernova, atau lubang hitam. Siapa yang tahu?

Itulah yang saya sebut “melihat masa lalu.”

Sekarang para ilmuwan luar angkasa sudah dapat menghitung jarak terjauh alam semesta. Karena saya lupa berapa angka persisnya, kita anggap saja “hahaha” tahun cahaya. Nah, dari situ timbullah masalah (tanpa bermaksud menyinggung, tetapi bukankah memang itulah pekerjaan para ilmuwan – mencari “masalah”?). Jika jari-jari “bola” alam semesta kita ini adalah “hahaha” tahun cahaya, bukankah berarti itu adalah jari-jari “bola” alam semesta kita “hahaha” tahun yang lalu? Lalu bagaimana keadaan “bola” sebelum itu? Bagaimana keadaannya pada awal mula, pada waktu nol? Tidak (setidaknya belum) ada yang tahu.

Hanya Sang Pencipta yang tahu.

Tetapi siapakah Sang Pencipta itu?

Kalau boleh, saya akan meralat pertanyaan itu. Menurut pemikiran saya yang dangkal ini, Sang Pencipta bukanlah “siapa”, melainkan “apa”. Nah, sebelum Anda semua melempari saya dengan batu, izinkan saya menjelaskan pemikiran saya terlebih dulu.

Sebagai orang Nasrani (walaupun tidak taat), saya berpegang pada Alkitab (Kitab Suci/The Holy Bible). Di sana dituliskan bahwa Sang Pencipta memulai segalanya dari ketiadaan. Sedangkan sebagai seorang yang *pernah* blajar fisika, saya mengerti bahwa ada yang disebut hukum kekekalan materi, mirip seperti hokum kekekalan energi. Adalah mustahil untuk menciptakan materi dari ketiadaan materi. Menurut sebuah novel fiksi ilmiah yang pernah saya baca, dan didukung pula oleh teori penciptaan alam semesta yang sampai sekarang masih *dianggap* benar (karena belum dapat dibuktikan), alam semesta tercipta dari sebuah ledakan yang mahadahsyat. Namun apakah yang menyebabkan ledakan tersebut? Bagaimana ledakan tersebut bisa terjadi?

Inilah yang sangat saya sayangkan dari tulisan ini, bahwa jawaban dari pertanyaan tersebut tidak datang dari sebuah jurnal ilmiah, tetapi dari sebuah novel sains-fiksi. Menurut novel tersebut (yang saya tidak berani menjamin kebenaran dan keabsahannya karena bagaimanapun itu adalah sebuah novel), ledakan tersebut terjadi karena adanya kepadatan energi yang luar bisaa.

Berarti memang benar, materi tercipta dari ketiadaan materi? Sekali lagi maaf, saya memberanikan diri menjawab “ya”. Tetapi tidak dapat dilupakan bahwa ada aspek yang lain yang terlibat: titik energi. Jadi masuk akallah bahwa Sang Pencipta menciptakan segalanya dari ketiadaan. Masuk akal pula saya menyebut Sang Pencipta bukan sebagai “siapa”, melainkan sebagai “apa”. Titik energi itulah Sang Pencipta! Ups, maaf, maksud saya Sang Pencipta adalah titik energi itu.

Lalu darimana titik energi itu berasal? Saya juga tidak tahu. Jawaban yang sama atas pertanyaan, “Jika Sang Pencipta menciptakan segalanya, lalu (si)apakah yang menciptakan Sang Pencipta?”

Dalam hal ini saya berani berbicara bahwa justru di situlah letak keagungan Sang Pencipta!

Mari kita lanjutkan kepada penciptaan makhluk hidup. Seorang guru biologi saya semasa SMA dulu pernah bercerita bagaimana para ilmuwan telah dapat mensintesis (menciptakan?) sel telur dan sel sperma dengan komposisi unsure dan senyawa yang tepat seperti aslinya. Namun apa yang terjadi ketika mereka disatukan? Tepat sekali, tidak ada. Makhluk hidup tidak hanya terdiri atas sekian persen unsur ini, sekian persen senyawa itu, sekian gram mineral X, dan sebagainya. Lebih dari itu, mereka memerlukan sebuah daya hidup! “daya hidup” inilah yang saya yakini sebagai bukti adanya Sang Pencipta. Lebih dari itu, “daya hidup” itulah Sang Pencipta! Ups, salah lagi. Maksud saya, Sang Pencipta adalah “daya hidup” itu.

Oke, sekarang saya bisa mendengar Anda berbicara seperti ini, “Anda meracau. Anda pasti sedang mabuk. Tadi Anda bilang Sang Pencipta adalah titik energi. Sekarang Anda katakan Sang Pencipta adalah daya hidup. Entah apalagi yang akan Anda katakan nanti. Yang mana yang harus saya percaya?”

Sederhana, Saudara! Keduanya. Atau tidak ada.

“Tapi mengapa?”

Sederhana juga. Dia adalah Sang Pencipta. Siapa yang bisa membatasi diri-Nya? Bahkan hukum alam pun takluk pada-Nya. Bagaimana kita, manusia, yang memahami hukum alam pun tidak dapat sempurna, mau mencoba memahami Sang Pencipta hukum alam?

Pikiran kita masih sangat primitif. Kita menganggap Sang Pencipta sebagai “siapa” karena kita tidak memiliki gambaran lain yang dapat mewakili kehebatan-Nya. Kita merasa bahwa kitalah makhluk tertinggi. Maka kita menganggap Yang Paling Tinggi pasti juga “siapa” (ingat bahwa kata “who” mengacu pada manusia, sedangkan “what” mengacu pada benda).

Padahal mungkin saja ada “keberadaan” lain yang lebih tinggi dari kita. Beberapa menyebutnya ET, alien, atau semacamnya. Tapi saya bilang, “keberadaan” lain tersebut mungkin sudah bukan lagi “apa”. Saya belum dapat menemukan kata tanya yang tepat karena selain saya bukan seorang ahli bahasa, saya juga belum pernah menjumpai (encounter) “keberadaan” tersebut.

Jadi, siapakah Sang Pencipta?

Apakah Sang Pencipta itu “siapa” atau “apa”?

Marilah berdoa menurut iman kita masing-masing. Sejenak kita syukuri, kita rasakan, kita sadari keagungan-Nya. Setelah itu, jika Anda masih tetap ingin melempari saya dengan batu, it’s yours.

Der Panzer opened the scoring spree with Miroslav Klose’s shot at the 20th minute of the game. Then Lukas Podolski increased their advantages with his left-footed finish. Matt Upson reduce the deficit with his heading, following Frank Lampard’s corner kick. Sixty seconds later,  Lampard would have equalized if the referee did not out-rule his goal. The score stayed 2-1 for Germany’s advantage till the referee blows the long whistle indicating half-time.

The rest of Germany’s goal came from Thomas Mueller. Both goals started from counter attack, taking benefit from the absence of  England’s side backs from their attacking position. At this point, I knew England was to be buried.

That is a brief summary of the match. Now here’s the analysis. However, I can’t give analysis for the first half since I forgot to watch it. LOL.

The Three Lions’ players’ morale must have been dropped by the time Klose opened the scoring. And it dropped even lower when Der Panzer doubled their lead. Fortunately, Upson overcame it and reduce the deficit. That must’ve risen their morale a little bit. But then came that controversial decision from referee Jorge Larrionda to deny Lampard’s shot as a goal. After that, I believe they had lost their faith.

Maybe it’s also the reason that pushed them to constantly attack, forcing Glen Johnson and Ashley Cole leave their post. Germany took this advantage well. With superb ball delivery, they left John Terry and Matt Upson back-footed, and at the end triumphed England.

Apart from those mistakes, if I may judge, England didn’t play good enough. It’s like they play with no clear purpose. Actually, I hate the way they played, from the very start of the tournament. There are so many teams that play better than England. Spain, for example. It’s just fanaticism that I support England.

There may be excuses for their defeat, but it seems that no one will need it. Fabio Capello, England coach has proven himself unable to handle England national squad.

Even England’s captain, Steven Gerrard, admitted that Germany played better than them.

Germany are a fantastic team and they deserved their win. We’ll go away and have a think about what went wrong and why we didn’t progress further in the tournament. As a team we’ve made a big mistake today and we’ve been beaten by a good team. They were more clinical in front of goal and they made less mistakes than us and we got punished for that.

There must be lessons that can be learned through this defeat. But who will learn? The coach will probably be fired. The players? I doubt that for the next four year England will still have squad at this quality.

Go home, England, and accept your defeat. Never think to blame anyone. That’s the best thing to do—for now.
